DEQ seeks information on illegal dumping incident near Ruddock

The Department of Environmental Quality is looking for information regarding an illegal dumping incident on Highway 51, north of Ruddock. Three 55-gallon drums were dumped by the side of the road, just south of the blue water tower, on Tuesday, July 1st. DEQ inspectors determined that the drums contained spent chemical powder from fire extinguishers.

      DEQ to conduct water survey on Bayou Cane near Mandeville

      The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality will be installing electronic monitoring equipment in conjunction with a water sampling survey on Bayou Cane in St. Tammany Parish. The equipment will be installed the week of June 16th. The units will be located in Bayou cane from above Hwy. 190 to Lake Pontchartrain.

        Arrest made in tire burning case in Ethel

        A resident of Ethel was arrested yesterday stemming from recent activities involving illegal tire burning in East Feliciana Parish. Brian Tramine Hawkins, 24, admitted to burning approximately one hundred tires in order to remove the rims and avoid paying disposal fees on the rubber. The remains of the tires were then disposed of in a nearby forest.

          Thompson Hayward site cleanup comes to an end

          The Department of Environmental Quality is issuing a formal document, called a No Further Action, for the cleanup project at the Thompson Hayward site in New Orleans. This concludes the cleanup of the site located at 7700 Earhart Blvd.

                Arrest made in 2006 illegal burning case in Ventress

                A resident of New Roads was arrested today following an investigation on the illegal burning of Pentachlorophenol, also known as PCP, a wood preserving chemical, in an open fire pit in Ventress. Victor Mougeot, 70, was arrested for the activity which occurred on June 29, 2006. Mougeout's neighbors were exposed to the resulting noxious smoke plume and required medical attention. His arraignment is scheduled for September 9, and his bond is set at $25,000.

                  Governor Jindal, Coach Les Miles, Better than Ezra Kickoff Hurricane Preparedness Campaign, Encourage Residents to "Get a Gameplan"

                  Governor Bobby Jindal, LSU Head Football Coach Les Miles and rock band Better Than Ezra kicked off state hurricane preparedness efforts today at a press conference at the Governor�s mansion. The Governor announced www.GetAGameplan.org - a website for Louisianians to use to prepare their homes and their families for a potential hurricane this hurricane season. The Get a Gameplan hurricane preparedness campaign is focused on providing Louisianians with the information and tools they need to prepare for a possible hurricane in their area.
